You'll see how users can use a web browser, which almost all users are familiar with, to process mail and calendar information which is actually stored in IBM's proven office environment: OfficeVision/VM. This provides not only a more intuitive user interface, but additional functions, like file attachments. The demo will also show you how these web browser users can coexist with users who still require a 3270 interface to their office system.

For those who currently have other 3270 applications on VM/ESA, this solution demo also includes web browser access to those applications. A default 3270 to HTML transformation algorithm (included in the solution) is used to provide this function. This means that although some applications have been web-enhanced (like mail and calendar), meaning the user interface is greatly improved in the web browser over the 3270, all applications are still available from the web browser. With programming, any 3270 application can be web-enhanced to improve upon the web-enabled interface. You will see firsthand the difference between these two types of interfaces: the default web-enabled interface to a 3270 application, and the greatly web-enhanced mail and calendar functions.

Demonstration Requirements:

Use Lotus SmartSuite Millenium Edition for best performance. This version launches the Screencam player when 50% of the file is loaded.
